Relay Meet Nearly Yields Record Swim for Scots

Monmouth, IL (10/26/2019) — Monmouth nearly treated themselves to a program record at Saturday's Halloween Swimming and Diving Invitational in Bloomington.

Rik Doornenbal and Tyler Davis accounted for three wins each, including a near-record in the 500-yard freestyle relay. The tandem teamed with Preston Bocchi and Andrew Lee to swim a winning time of 4:28.13, less than a second off the Scots' school record. The foursome also touched first in the 200 free relay, clocking a 1:36.09, winning by one, one-hundredth of a second.

Doornenbal added another relay win in the 300 butterfly relay, joining Daniel Kadlec and Dylan Chiaro to clock a 2:59.64, winning by nearly two full seconds. Davis picked up his third win by swimming a 51.65 in the 100 free.

Jaidlyn Sellers paced the women with a trio of top three swims. She was second in the 100 free with a 58.19 and placed third in the 200 back after clocking a 2:26.15. Sellers added a runner up finish in the 200 freestyle relay, joining Brittany Lira, Lauren Fulscher and Becca Waxberg to touch in 1:50.03. Waxberg recorded a personal-best of 2:35.69 in the 200 fly where she placed third.

The Scots return home to host their Fighting Scot Invitational on Nov. 9.
