Robertson/Simonson Win #3 Doubles Consolation Bracket

All three doubles teams make consolation finals

Monmouth, IL (04/24/2022) — The Monmouth College tennis team finished their season Sunday with the Midwest Conference doubles tournament at the Hitters SportsPlex in Middleton, Wisconsin.

Playing at No. 3 doubles, the team of Nicholas Robertson (Covington, Georgia) and Matthew Simonson (Monmouth, Illinois) won the consolation championship as the #7 seeds. They lost in the main draw to #2 Lake Forest 8-2 before beating #6 Cornell 8-5 in the consolation semifinals. In the consolation finals they beat #5 Illinois College 8-6.

Playing at No. 1 doubles, Andrew Shie (Davenport, Iowa) and Brendan Guenther (Pekin, Illinois) lost in the consolation finals. As the #4 seed they lost 8-4 to #5 Lawrence in the main draw 8-4. They got a bye to the consolation finals and lost to Ripon 8-4.

At No. 2 doubles, Sawyer Day (Cupertino, California) and Andre Myklebust (Cambridge, Wisconsin) were the #7 seeds. They lost to #2 Lake Forest in the main draw 8-0 before beating #6 Illinois College 8-5 in the consolation semifinals. In the consolation finals they lost to #5 Lawrence 8-3.
