Ruiz-Camarena Scores Twice but Scots Fall in Iowa
Scots back home next week for two games
MONMOUTH, Ill. (09/14/2023) — The Monmouth College men's soccer team got two goals from freshman Kristofer Ruiz-Camarena (El Paso, Texas) on Wednesday but eventually lost 4-2 at Upper Iowa University.
Ruiz-Camarena gave the Scots their first lea of the season with an unassisted goal in the 29th minute. However, the Peacocks tied the game just 20 seconds later and took the lead right before halftime.
Ruiz-Camarena tied the game 2-2 in the 60th minute with another unassisted goal. The game remained tied for eight minutes before the Peacocks went on top 3-2. They scored the final goal in the 77th minute to win 4-2.
Alejandro Zamarripa (El Paso, Texas) started in goal for the first time this season and he made four saves in 55 minutes of action. Luis Villa (El Paso, Texas) mad three saves in 35 minutes of work in goal as both keepers allowed two goals.
MONMOUTH MOMENTS: Ruiz-Camarena scored on both his shots on goal for his first two collegiate goals. Carter Breuchaud (Lebanon, Illinois) also had a shot on goal. Tanner Viren (East Peoria, Illinois) and Logan Corgan (Geneseo, Illinois) played all 90 minutes. Monmouth is off for six days before playing back-to-back home games next week The Scots will host Principia College on Tuesday, Sept. 19 and then host Greenville University the next day with both games at 3:30 p.m
