Schmidt Scores but Scots Fall to Coe

MONMOUTH, Ill. (09/28/2023) — The Monmouth College women's soccer team dropped the non-conference finale 3-1 to Coe College on Wednesday night. The Scots return to MWC action on Saturday with a home game against Beloit College.

The Kohawks took the lead in the eighth minute. They scored twice in a 3-minute span to take a 3-0 lead with goals in the 26th and 29th minutes. Monmouth got on the board in the 32nd minute after winning a corner kick. Lynn Rech (Vacaville, California) delivered the corner to the middle of the box and Elizabeth Schmidt (Waverly, Iowa) headed the ball into the back of the net.

Neither team scored in the second half. Monmouth outshot Coe for the game 18-17 and shots on goal were 9-8 in favor of the Scots. Monmouth goalkeeper Bronte de Zwart (Ridleyton, Australia) made four saves for the Scots.

MONMOUTH MOMENTS: Avery Parks (Bloomington, Illinois), Schmidt and de Zwart played all 90 minutes. Rech and Jae Mitchell (Rockford, Illinois) both had three shots on goal while Schmidt had two. The Scots return to MWC action at home against Beloit on Saturday with an 11 a.m. kickoff.
