Schmidt Scores Pair for Lacrosse in Home Loss

MONMOUTH, Ill. (04/05/2023) — The Monmouth College women's lacrosse team hosted Lake Forest in a Midwest Women's Lacrosse Conference game on Tuesday. The Scots (0-8, 0-3) fell to the Foresters (3-6, 2-0) by a final score of 21-2.

Lake Forest took a 3-0 lead in the first five minutes of the game. Elizabeth Schmidt (Waverly, Iowa) scored on a free position shot to get the Scots on the board. Lake Forest scored the next eight goals to take an 11-1 lead and start the running clock with 40 seconds left in the first quarter.

The Foresters scored four goals in the second quarter and led 15-1 at halftime. Neither team scored for the first 13 minutes of the third quarter before Lake Forest took a 16-1 lead. Lake Forest led 19-1 when Schmidt scored her second goal of the game with 5:35 to play. The goal came on a free position shot. Lake Forest scored the final two ooals of the game for a 21-2 win.

MONMOUTH MOMENTS: Schmidt has scored in all eight games and leads the Scots with 17 goals. Lea Selquist (Peru, Illinois) made eight saves in the game. She has made at least eight saves in every game and at least 12 saves in six of eight. This was the first-ever meeting between the Scots and the Foresters as Lake Forest started play last year while Monmouth took the season off. LFC won the regular-season conference title last year but lost in the tournament championship game to Hamline. The Scots host Wisconsin Eau-Claire in a non-conference game at Noon on Saturday.
