Scots' Batterton Scores Second Weekly League Honor
Monmouth, IL (01/27/2020) — Monmouth's Justin Batterton (Astoria, Ill./South Fulton) earned his second men's basketball Midwest Conference Performer of the Week honor in three weeks after a stellar performance helped the Scots move to the brink of the top spot in the league.
Batterton led Monmouth in scoring for the second straight week, helping pull the Scots within a game of first place in the Midwest Conference, but it was a rebound and assist that had the main impact last week. Trailing by three at Illinois College with three seconds remaining, the senior pulled an offensive rebound and kicked it out for an assist on the game-tying 3-pointer at the buzzer to send the game to overtime where the Scots won 90-87. Batterton scored four of his 18 points in OT to give Monmouth coach Todd Skrivseth his 100th career win. Batterton pumped in 29 more points in Saturday's 86-76 win over Lake Forest, avenging a December loss and moving the Scots just one game out of first place in the MWC. For the week, Batterton averaged 23.5 points on 18-of-31 (.581) shooting from the floor and 11-of-13 (.846) from the line and 5.5 rebounds per game while dishing out five assists.
A business major, Batterton is the son of Bill Batterton.
