Scots' Can't Escape Lions' Den
Monmouth, IL (12/19/2019) — Monmouth led at the half, but hot long-range shooting late pushed Lincoln Christian past the Scots' 82-68 Wednesday night.
The Scots led for much of the first half, taking their largest lead of the first 20 minutes at 19-9 on a Jonathan Oradiegwu free throw midway through the first half. The Red Lions countered with a 5-0 run as the Scots nursed a 33-25 lead into halftime.
Justin Batterton stretched Monmouth's lead to double digits early in the second half with an inside bucket for a 37-27 lead, but LCU rallied again, eventually taking a 55-52 lead on a 3-pointer with 9:23 to play. The Scots stayed within striking distance until the Lions broke free in the final three minutes, canning back-to-back threes to begin the final run.
Devin Yocum came off the bench to lead the Scots with 17 points, Dee Hyler added a dozen and Batterton chipped in 10.
Monmouth continues their road trip on Dec. 29 with a 1 p.m. tipoff at Loras.
