Scots' Hoekstra Earns Top Five Finish in Rain-Shortened Knox Invitational

Monmouth, IL (09/22/2019) — Monmouth's Haley Hoekstra didn't let a split 18-hole round hamper her finish at the Knox Women's Golf Invitational after severe weather during Saturday's first round and a steady rain on Sunday shortened the 36-hole meet to an 18-hole affair played over two days on the Soangetaha Country Club Course.

Saturday's weather pushed the finish of the first round into Sunday morning before a steady rain Sunday made the course unplayable for the scheduled final round. Monmouth's 343 total for the 18-holes on the par 73, 5,947-yard course placed the Scots sixth.

Hoekstra carded an 81, tying her for fifth in the field of nearly 50 golfers. Dani Freeman checked in as the Scots' No. 2 scorer with an 85, three strokes ahead of Mamie Ambrosch's 88. Morgan Bemis closed the round as Monmouth's final scorer, carding an 89. The Scots' No. 5 golfer - Kaniesha Whatley - posted a non-scoring round of 101. Playing as an individual, Jessi Haines toured the course with a 95.

The Scots are scheduled to play next in the Illinois College Fall Invitational in Jacksonville Sept. 29-30.
