Scots' Water Polo Women Earn Team, Individual National Academic Honors

Monmouth, IL (08/05/2020) — The Monmouth College women's water polo team has earned its third national academic award in five seasons, and five Fighting Scots were honored for their academic work during the 2019-20 academic year by the Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches (ACWPC).

The women's 3.31 team GPA was the highest in the seven-year history of the program and ranks as the nation's 12th-best team grade point average this year. The Scots' GPA easily surpassed the ACWPC's 3.00 minimum to be named an All-Academic team.

For the third straight season, five women earned individual Scholar-Athlete awards from the coaches' organization. In order to qualify for individual honors, student-athletes must have earned a minimum grade point average of 3.20 on a 4.0 scale. The award is broken into three categories: Outstanding (4.0-3.71), Superior (3.70-3.41) and Excellent (3.40-3.20).

Junior Miranda Pasky (Paso Robles, CA/Paso Robles), sophomores Lindsey Turnquist (Ventura, CA/Buena) and Marissa Logan (Elmhurst, IL/York) and freshmen Becca Waxberg (St. Louis, MO/Parkway Central) and Kaitlyn LaGrone (Homewood, IL/Homewood-Flossmoor) were awarded the ACWPC honors for excellence in the classroom during the pandemic-shortened 2020 spring season. Pasky earned her third straight ACWPC award and Turnquist her second. It was the first ACWPC academic honor for Waxberg, LaGrone and Logan.

Pasky and Waxberg earned the ACWPC's highest rating of Outstanding. An art and business major, Pasky is the daughter of Gary and Angela Pasky. Waxberg majors in biopsychology and is the daughter of Keith and Elizabeth Waxberg.

Turnquist was the lone Scot to earn a Superior standing, the second-highest ranking bestowed by the ACWPC. A political science major, she is the daughter of Dianna Turnquist.

LaGrone and Logan rounded out this year's Scots honorees, claiming Excellent status. An economics major, LaGrone is the daughter of Julia LaGrone. Logan majors in kinesiology and is the daughter of Brian and Brenda Logan.

Monmouth has earned 32 individual national academic awards and three team honors since the program was elevated to varsity status in 2014.
