Scots' Women 3rd, Men 5th at Les Duke Invitational
Monmouth, IL (09/15/2019) — Monmouth's women used tight pack times and the men, team depth, to finish third and fifth, respectively, at Saturday's Les Duke Invitational in Grinnell, Iowa.
The Scots' women's lead pack - Arika Hofmann, Caroline Young and Julia Sterr - were separated by just 14 seconds on the 6K course. Hofmann's 24:35.6 placed her 8th while Young was 11th in 24:40.4 and Sterr 13th with a 24:49.0.
Kirsten Menke placed 35th with a time of 26:15.2, followed by Kara Fisher's 27:14.8 which placed her 48th. Monmouth's final two scoring runners - Natalia Sliwinska and Alexis Shields clocked a 29:23.4 and 30:21.9, respectively. Teagan McKenna (30:33.6) and Nyasaina Kwamboka (30:38.6) narrowly missed a scoring time.
For the second straight meet, Griff Morrill was among the leaders in the men's race. The junior finished third in the 8K race, clocking a 26:58.2, just eight seconds out of the lead and two seconds off a Monmouth honor roll time for the course. Riley Dulin followed in 12th position after running a 27:37.1.
Tanner Heiple (29:16.2), Mike Bersell (30:00.1) and freshman Alex Urbina (30:22.9) rounded out the Scots' top five. Monmouth's scoring runners also included Gavin Conway (30:37.9) and Carlos Miranda (31:28.4).
Monmouth will next compete on Friday at the Bradley Intercollegiate in Peoria.
