Monmouth trailed by two at the end of one quarter, but pulled away in the second half of an 84-71 win at MacMurray.

The Scots opened the season with their second straight win on the road as Carley Turnbull pumped in 23 points to lead four in double figures. Jordan Kintigh's layup with 1:45 left in the opening half stretched Monmouth's lead to 37-31, their largest of the first 20 minutes before the Highlanders made a 6-1 run to close the gap to 38-37 at the break.

The teams traded the lead in the first five minutes of the third quarter but an 11-4 run that began with a Zoie Wall layup and ended with a Turnbull bucket inside opened up a 60-50 Scots' lead. A pair of Kaitlyn Osmulski free throws early in the fourth quarter pushed the advantage to 12 at 69-57 as the Scots maintained a double digit lead down the stretch, sealed by four Osmulski free throws in the final 1:02.

Osmulski and Becca Gallis joined Turnbull in double digits with 10 while Shayne Smith came off the bench to add 14. Monmouth shot 24-of-47 (51.1%) from the floor and held MacMurray to a 23-for-58 (39.7%) afternoon.

Monmouth continues their road trip Wednesday with a 7:30 p.m. tip off at Iowa Wesleyan.
