Scots Baseball Falls to Augustana on Wednesday
Centeno collects two hits in loss
Monmouth, IL (03/16/2023) — The Monmouth College baseball team went on the road Wednesday and lost to Augustana College 6-1. The Scots and Vikings hadn't met since 2012 and tonight's game was originally scheduled for Friday but moved up due to inclement weather this weekend.
With the game scoreless, the Scots picked up their first hit of the game in the top of the fourth when Raul Guillermo III (Miami, Florida) singled with one out. Christian Centeno (Miami, Florida) singled but the Scots left runners on first and second.
Augustana scored two in the fourth and one in the fifth to lead 3-0. Nate Melvin (Ottawa, Illinois) led off the sixth with a walk and stole second. With one out, Centeno singled but the Scots left runners on the corners.
Down 6-0, Guillermo was hit by a pitch with one out in the eighth and he moved up on a wild pitch. An error by the Vikings plated Guillermo but a double play ended the inning.
Addison Fletcher (Monmouth, Illinois) got the start and took the loss for the Scots. He allowed six runs on seven hits over 5 1/3 innings while striking out one and walking three. Riley Jennings (Knoxville, Illinois) retired both batters he faced and Nick Corman (Monmouth, Illinois) threw two hitless innings with two strikeouts.
Centeno had two of Monmouth's four hits while both Todd Fowler (Chatham, Illinois) and Tyler Houck (Park Ridge, Illinois) drew two walks. The Scots are scheduled to play both Buena Vista and Dominican on Saturday at Augustana but the weather will likely alter that schedule.
