Scots Baseball Loses Final Game in Florida on Friday
Monmouth heads to Augustana next Friday
MONMOUTH, Ill. (03/10/2023) — The Monmouth College baseball team dropped the final game of their Florida trip 12-1 to Penn State-Behrend on Friday morning.
Tim McNally (Paw Paw, Illinois) got the start for the Scots, his second of the trip. The Lions loaded the bases with a single, hit batter and single. Another hit made it 2-0 and the Lions added two more on a throwing error. A wild pitch gave the Lions a 5-0 lead and they added another run with a single and triple.. Two more came home on a pair of hits before a home run gave the Lions a 10-0 lead.
The Scots got on the board in the third. Logan Komater (Ottawa, Illinois) reached on a throwing error with one out and Daniel Lummus (New Port Richey, Florida) singled to left. Raul Guillermo III (Miami, Florida) singled to load the bases and Komater scored on a RBI groundout by Jack Kuethe (Pekin, Illinois).
Cade Sharp (Aledo, Illinois) gave up one run on three hits over three innings while striking out four. The Lions led 11-1 when lefty Toby Turnquist (Monmouth, Illinois) took the mound for his Scots pitching debut. He walked one and allowed a single but struck out three in the fifth inning.
Riley Jennings (Knoxville, Illinois) threw a scoreless inning before the Lions added an unearned run against Carson Mohler (Temple Terrace, Florida) in the seventh. Jakob Brokaw (Andalusia, Illinois) threw a scoreless eighth inning with one walk and two strikeouts.
