Scots Complete at Last Chance Qualifiers

Peckham breaks her own school record

by Nathan Baliva

MONMOUTH, Ill. (03/06/2022) — In the last weekend before the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships, a handful of Monmouth College student-athlete competed in Last Chance Qualifiers this weekend in an effort to qualify for nationals, or improve their own season-best marks.

At Wartburg College, Jordan Peckham (Farmington, Illinois) broke her own school record in the 60m dash with a 7.76 run in the preliminaries. She set the record last weekend while winning the Midwest Conference title at 7.80. She ran a 7.81 in the final on Saturday and now has the three fastest times in the event in school history. Peckham also moved into second place on the school list in the 200m with a 25.54 time on Saturday, besting her mark of 25.57 from last weekend. She has a chance to qualify for nationals, with the full list being released early in the week.

Also at Wartburg, Reed Wilson (Normal, Illinois) cleared 4.71m in the pole vault. His season-best of 5.00m was tied for fifth heading into the weekend and he is in pretty solid ground to qualify for the NCAAs in Winston-Salem, North Carolina next week.

Distance runner Riley Dulin (Monmouth, Illinois) went after the school record in the one mile race and while he set a new personal best at 4:19.57, he fell shy of the record set by Zach Barr in 2005. Barr's time of 4:16.67 has stood for 17 years. Barr also logged a 4:19.68 mile and Kel Bond ran 4:19.21 in 2007, the only times faster in the event than Dulin's performance on Saturday.

Kareema Lawal (Aurora, Illinois) entered the weekend ranked 22nd in the weight throw at 16.68m. She threw Friday night in Platteville, Wisconsin but didn't surpass that distance in the last chance qualifer.

The full list of participants for the NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships will be announced early this week with the event taking place in North Carolina March 10-12.
