Scots Cross Country Teams Compete in First Race of 2022
MONMOUTH, Ill. (09/02/2022) — The Monmouth College cross country teams started their season with the Titan Opener in Normal, Illinois, hosted by Illinois Wesleyan University. The men finished sixth while the women were seventh.
The men ran three miles and the women's race was a two-miler. Thursday's race was the first for the Scots under new head coach Brady Hunt.
On the men's side, William Plumley (Geneseo, Illinois) logged the best time for a Monmouth runner at 16:41.04, finishing 21st. Eli Newton (Dallas City, Illinois) finished 39th in 17:31:02 and freshman Eli Perry (Mount Prospect, Illinois) was 48th at 18:01.26. Neo Colter (Geneseo, Illinois) finished 50th in 18:02.04 and Braden Bernas (Aurora, Illinois) was 57th at 18:53.99. The last two scorers for the Scots were Alex Urbina (Round Lake Beach, Illinois) at 19:16.01 and Harrison Hicks (Spring Grove, Illinois) at 19:57.87.
On the women's side, Gabriela Peterson (Southwick, Massachusetts) had the best finish in 25th place with a time of 13:28.20. Lindsay Eaton (Danvers, Illinois was 40th at 14:20.29 with Skylar Garey (Metamora, Illinois) in 45th at 14:54.53. Kailey Cronin (Elgin, Illinois) was 57th at 16:31.55 with Emma Seybold (Naperville, Illinois) in 64th at 18:13.33. Kari Coulter (Keithsburg, Illinois) scored in 66th place at 19:45.87, just ahead of Lexi Shields (Viola, Illinois) at 20:17.57.
Both the men and women will run in the Aurora Spartan Invitational next Saturday in Aurora, Illinois.
