Scots Cross Country Teams Run in Peoria on Friday

New career-best time for William Plumley

MONMOUTH, Ill. (09/17/2022) — The Monmouth College men's and women's cross country teams competed at the Bradley Intercollegiate on Friday at Detweiller Park in Peoria. The women's race was first with a distance of three miles while the men followed in an 8K race.

The women's team finished seventh in the team competition. Gabirela Peterson (Southwick, Massachusetts) had the top time for a Monmouth runner at 20:11.8, finishing 24th. Lindsay Eaton (Danvers, Illinois) finished 34th at 21:47.6 with Skyler Garey (Metamora, Illinois) in 42nd at 22:54.6. Kailey Cronin (Elgin, Illinois) was 52nd in 25:26.3 with Emma Seybold (Naperville, Illinois) in 55th at 25:59.0. Kari Coulter (Keithsburg, Illinois) ran 29:26.1 for 61st with Lexi Shields (Viola, Illinois) in 62nd at 29:46.8.

This was the first three-mile competition for the women this season. They ran two miles in the opener at Illinois Wesleyan and ran the full 6K distance at Aurora last weekend.

The men's team finished ninth in the team race as all seven runners set new season-high marks in the 8K distance. William Plumley (Geneseo, Illinois) finished 43rd in 27:24.1, setting a new career-best by 18 seconds. Eli Newton (Dallas City, Illinois) was 54th in 28:34.5 while Neo Colter (Geneseo, Illinois) was 63rd in 29:28.0.

Alex Urbina (Round Lake Beach, Illinois) was 68th in 31:00.5 while Braden Bernas (Aurora, Illinois) took nearly a minute off his career-best time. He finished 72nd in 31:24.9. Harrison Hicks (Spring Grove, Illinois) was 73rd in 31:50.5 and Brendan Jones (Mascoutah, Illinois) was 82nd in 31:41.7.

The Scots have next weekend off. Both teams will run in the Brissman-Lundeen Invite, hosted by Augustana College, on Saturday, Oct. 1.
