Scots Douse Fire in Home Season Finale

Monmouth, IL (01/19/2020) — Monmouth made their final home swim meet memorable, winning all but two events as the Fighting Scots' men and women each easily won their dual meet with rival Knox.

The Fighting Scots continued their dominance on the day by ending the meet with a record in the mixed 200-yard freestyle medley. Freshmen Jaidlyn Sellers and Joseph Addison teamed with sophomore Maggie Wingo and junior Preston Bocchi to clock a school-record 1:38.12, winning the event by nearly 20 seconds. The win was the third of the day for Addison and Bocchi who each won a pair of individual events.

Bocchi raced to a 1:48.52 to take first in the 200 freestyle and added a win in the 100 backstroke with a 1:00.18. Addison's two wins came in the 100 IM where he clocked a Monmouth honor roll time of 57.98 and the 100 fly with a 56.39.

Andrew Lee, Marissa Logan and Becca Waxberg also were double winners. Lee touched first in two freestyle races, the 50 (24.69) and the 100 (54.46). Logan took top honors in the longer freestyles, winning the 200 (2:16.89) and the 500 (6:10.40). Waxberg controlled the 100-yard distance in the IM with a personal best of 1:08.26 and the butterfly where she clocked a 1:05.20.

Monmouth's men also took first in the 1,000 freestyle (Dylan Chiaro, 11:42.89), 500 freestyle (Tyler Davis, 5:20.52) and the 100 breaststroke (Rik Doornenbal, 1:07.77).

The Scots' other women's individual wins were turned in by Lauren Fulscher (50 free, 27.35), Wingo (100 free, 58.91), Sellers (100 backstroke, 1:05.71) and Katlynn LaGrone (100 breaststroke, 1:26.16).

The men's and women's teams had opened the meet with a pair of relay wins in the 200 medley relay. Matthew Franciscovich, Doornenbal, Chiaro and Davis won by more than 20 seconds in 1:52.94. Rachel Sitko, Sellers, Waxberg and Wingo teamed to swim a 2:09.42, earning the win by less than one second.

Monmouth travels to Elsah, Illinois, for Friday's sprint meet at Principia College. Saturday, the Scots will participate in the full Principia Invitational. It's the last meet before the Midwest Conference Championships Feb. 14-16.
