Scots Fall at Lawrence on Wednesday
MONMOUTH, Ill. (01/09/2025) — The Monmouth College women's basketball team jumped out to a good start but fell 67-39 at Lawrence University on Wednesday. The Fighting Scots (4-9, 1-3) are in the midst of a 7-game road trip and are back in action Saturday at Beloit.
The Scots grabbed an early 3-2 lead on a 3-pointer by Averi Rangel (Moline, Illinois). Kiersten Cox (Illinois City, Illinois) scored on either side of an Ella Goodrich (Minonk, Illinois) free throw and the Scots led 8-6. After a 5-0 Vikings run, Kynlee Stearns (Gilson, Illinois) tied the game at 11 with a 3-pointer. Lawrence scored the final four points of the quarter to lead 15-11.
The hosts pushed the lead to six early in the second quarter before Rangel hit a 3-pointer. A 6-0 Lawrence run ended when Stearns scored but the Vikings led 33-20 at halftime.
The Vikings went on a 6-0 run to start the third quarter before Goodrich split free throws. Another run put the hosts up 47-21 and Goodrich knocked down a 3-pointer. Ashley Jones (Abingdon, Illinois) made a free throw and Rangel scored but Lawrence led 47-29 going into the fourth quarter.
After a 12-0 run by LU to start the fourth, Stearns scored four straight points. Cox made it 63-36 with a bucket in the paint and Goodrich made a free throw with 1:40 to play. The Vikings scored the final six points of the game for the 69-37 win.
Stearns led the Scots with 12 points while Cox and Rangel both had eight. Jones led the team with five rebounds, three assists and one block. Goodrich led with four steals
MONMOUTH MOMENTS: Stearns has scored in double figures four times this season ... Goodrich had a season high four steals which tied her career-best from Dec. 31, 2023 against Mt. Mary ...
