Monmouth banged out eight hits in the opener, but had their bats silenced in Game 2, dropping 11-4, 7-0 decisions to Washington College Monday in Fort Pierce, Fla.

Washington plated a pair of first-inning runs and added two more unearned scores in the third to open up a 4-0 lead in Game 1. The Shoremen added three more in the fifth and piled on with a four-run sixth before Monmouth broke the ice. The Scots sent eight batters to the plate in the top of the seventh, scoring four runs - three with two outs. Mike Dato's double brought Matt Temaner home after Temaner delivered a run-scoring one-out triple. Sean Davis drove in his eighth run of the spring when his two-bagger chased Dato to the plate. Davis then came in on Justin Bost's base hit to end the scoring.

The Scots managed just two hits in the late game as the Shoremen completed the sweep. Washington plated two runs in the second after freshman starter Cal Engebretson retired the side in order in the first. WC added insurance runs in the next three innings while their pitching staff faced three over the minimum to drop the Scots to 3-2 on the season.

Monmouth will take Tuesday off before resuming play with a Wednesday double header against Cairn University.
