Monmouth may have dropped out of the postseason race, but they served notice they're a team to be reckoned with after a hard fought 3-2 loss to Grinnell. The Scots came back after dropping the first two sets 25-22 and 25-21, winning the next two by a combined five points.
Playing on Senior Day at Glennie Gym, senior Laura Dulee came through with an ace serve to end a 25-22 Set 3 win for the Scots. Monmouth rolled to a 17-9 Set 4 lead before the Pioneers rallied tying the game three times down the stretch. The Scots outlasted the Pioneers for the final points as a pair of attack errors gave Monmouth a 25-23 win to force a fifth set.
Neither team blinked in the final set as the game stayed a two-point affair the entire way. Tied at 16-16, the Pioneers took the match and punched their MWC ticket with back-to-back kills. The loss offset a 17 kill effort from Riley Cook who hit a match-best .326.
Monmouth wraps up league play Sunday with a 1 1p.m. contest at Beloit.
