Scots Score Twice but Fall on Senior Day
Monmouth, IL (09/30/2023) — The Monmouth College men's soccer team dropped their first home conference game on Saturday with a 4-2 loss to Beloit College.
The Buccaneers took the lead in the 24th minute. Monmouth responded just 2:40 later when Kristofer Ruiz-Camarena (El Paso, Texas) slammed home a free kick for his fourth goal of the season. Beloit used a nice 1-2 play to take the lead in the final 10 minutes of the first half.
The Buccaneers extended the lead to 3-1 with a penalty kick goal in the 64th minute. Monmouth pulled one back in the 81st minute. Branyon Heard (St. Louis, Missouri) sent a long cross into the box and Isaac Price (Peoria, Illinois) scored his third goal of the season. Beloit put the game away though with a goal in the 84th minute for the 4-2 final.
Monmouth goalkeeper Christopher Zavala (New Lenox, Illinois) made four saves. Monmouth outshot Beloit for the game 18-11 and led the way in shots on goal, 13-9.
MONMOUTH MOMENTS: Tanner Viren (East Moline, Illinois), Logan Corgan (Geneseo, Illinois), Matthew Rhenals (Hollywood, Florida), Ruiz-Camarena and Zavala, played all 90 minutes. Viren, Rhenals, Zavala and Xavion York (Palo Seco, Trinidad) were honored pre-game in a Senior Day ceremony. Price had three shots on goal. Ruiz-Camarena, Heard, Matthew Hipolito (Plainfield, Illinois) and Montgomery Schroeder (Harrisonville, Missouri) all had two shots on goal. The Scots will host Cornell at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
