Scots Sweep Beloit with 10 Point Senior Day Win
MONMOUTH, Ill. (02/01/2026) — The Monmouth College women's basketball team swept the season series against Beloit College with a 75-65 Senior Day win on Saturday. The Fighting Scots (7-13, 3-8) put three players in double figures to pick up the win.
"It's great to get a win on senior day," said head coach Michelle DeCoud. "Today was a testament to the work they've put in over their careers and I'm very proud of them."
Senior Averi Rangel (Moline, Illinois) scored on a jumper to tie the game at 2-2 before Beloit scored seven in a row. Ava Pelaez (Aurora, Colorado) and Tiah Riggs (Vincennes, Indiana) scored to kick off an 8-0 run. Kiersten Cox (Illinois City, Illinois) hit a jumper and Jamaica Walker (Mobile, Alabama) put the Scots on top 10-9 with a layup. Cox scored again before Beloit scored four straight and Allie Hoy (Woodland, Illinois) put the Scots back on top. A 3-point play from Brooklyn Sellers (Freeport, Illinois) gave Monmouth a 17-15 lead at the end of the first quarter.
Riggs made the first shot of the second quarter and Hoy hit two free throws for a 21-17 lead. Rangel made a 3-pointer and Cox hit a free throw for a 25-20 lead. After Beloit scored, Kynlee Stearns (Gilson, Illinois) made a free throw and a 3-pointer for a 29-22 lead. Layla Rice (Rock Island, Illinois) made two free throws as did Stearns. Another bucket from Stearns gave Monmouth a 35-22 lead and a 10-0 run before the Bucs made a free throw to end the half.
THe visitors started the second half on an 8-0 run before Pelaez scored. Stearns hit a 3-pointer and Riggs scored to restore the 10-point lead. After a timeout, Pelaez hit a corner 3-pointer and Cox scored in the paint. Beloit got the lead back down to single digits before Walker scored on a layup and Stearns hit a 3-pointer. Rangel ended the quarter with a 3-pointer for a 55-40 lead.
Sellers started the fourth quarter with a free throw and then a 3-point play. Cox put the Scots up 61-44 with a putback and Hoy made two free throws. Stearns put the Scots up 19 with two free throws but the Bucs scored 11 in a row. Stearns ended the run with two free throws and Rangel converted a 3-point play. Cox hit a jumper before Beloit closed the gap to seven with 30 seconds left. Walker made two free throws and Ava Borchardt (Harvard, Illinois) closed out the scoring with a free throw.
Stearns scored 18 points and added 10 rebounds for a double-double. Rangel and Cox both scored 11 points while Riggs and Sellers grabbed six rebounds each. Walker led the way with five assists while Hoy had two steals and Cox blocked two shots.
MONMOUTH MOMENTS: Stearns has three double-doubles and a triple-double this season ... She has 12 games with at least 10 points ... Rangel moved into 9th, passing Kari Walters, on the career 3-pointers attempted list Hoy moved into a tie with Zipporah Williams for ninth on the career games played list with 95 ... Monmouth was 6-for-13 on 3-points and 21-for-27 at the line ... The Scots out rebounded Beloit 43-31 with 13 offensive rebounds ... The Scots honored seniors Cox, Hoy, Hannah Peel (Gladwin, Michigan), Rangel. Sellers, Stearns along with injured Ella Goodrich (Minonk, Illinois) and Makenzie Yarc (Poplar Grove, Illinois) in a pre-game ceremony ... Monmouth won 62-61 at Beloit on Jan. 10 ... Monmouth leads the all-time series 40-26 with a 10-5 mark in the last 15 games ... The Scots are 8-1 at home against Beloit in the last decade ... The Scots are at Grinnell on Wednesday ...
