Scots Swimmers Sweep Illinois College

Monmouth, IL (11/17/2019) — Monmouth won 13 of a possible 22 swims and turned in numerous personal-best times to sweep Illinois College in Saturday's dual meet in Jacksonville.

Junior Preston Bocchi and freshman Joseph Addison took part in four winning swims while women's freshmen Jaidlyn Sellers netted four winning swims and Becca Waxberg three.

Both teams took wins in the opening event, the 400-yard medley relay. Bocchi and Addison teamed with Dylan Chiaro and Andrew Lee to win by 10 seconds with a 3:49.15. Sellers and Waxberg combined with Miranda Pasky and Lauren Fulscher to win the women's event in 4:21.53, six seconds faster than the runner up.

Monmouth also took the meet ending 200 freestyle relays. Bocchi, Addison and Lee were joined by Tyler Davis to touch in 1:32.88. Sellers, Waxberg, Pasky and Fulscher picked up their second relay win of the day with a time of 1:45.45.

Addison added a pair of personal-bests to win the 200 butterfly and 200 breaststrokes. His 2:02.51 in the fly was also a Monmouth honor roll time and placed him first by eight seconds. Addison took the breaststroke with a 2:20.17, edging teammate Kyle Jones by four seconds after Jones posted a PR of 2:24.57.

Sellers matched Addison's efforts with a pair of winning PRs that included an honor roll time. Her 25.78 in the 50 freestyle was also a Monmouth honor roll time and gave her the win by just under a second. Sellers clocked a winning swim in the 200 backstroke of 2:22.71.

Bocchi picked up a pair of individual swims in the 400 IM and the 200 back, clocking a 4:34.17 in the IM to win by nearly 12 seconds. He touched in 2:02.17 in the backstroke event.

Waxberg and Rik Doornenbal rounded out the Scots' wins as Waxberg picked up her third win in the 200 fly where she clocked a 2:36.23. Doornenbal posted a PR of 10:36.44 to win the 1,000 freestyle and followed with a 5:06.76 in the 500 free.

Monmouth will be in their own pool Friday when they host Augustana for a 6 p.m. dual meet.
