Scots Tennis Drops Two in Iowa

Labicki goes 3-1 on Saturday

MONMOUTH, Ill. (09/06/2025) — The Monmouth College women's tennis team dropped a pair of 5-2 decisions in Iowa on Saturday to Loras and Dubuque. Senior Natalie Labicki (Antioch, Illinois) had the best day for Monmouth going 3-1 overall with two singles wins and a doubles victory.

Ivana Stefanova (Streamwood, Illinois) and Labicki lost 6-3 at No. 1 doubles. Loras took the doubles point as they won 6-2 at No. 2 over Kimber Calvert (Paris, Illinois) and Alayna McKinley (Rock Island) . Natalie Holst (East Moline, Illinois) and Tiah Riggs (Vincennes, Indiana) lost 6-2 at No, 3 doubles

Stefanova lost at No. 1 singles 7-5, 6-2 while Labicki picked up a win at No. 2 singles 6-3, 6-1. Calvert fell at No. 3 singles 6-0, 6-1 but Holst won at No. 4 6-2, 6-4. McKinley lost 6-1, 6-1 at No. 5 and Riggs lost 6-3, 6-3 at No. 6.

"Both of our Natalie's played well in extremely windy conditions," said head coach Brian Dahlstrom. "Labicki played one of her best singles matches and Holst was very patient to get the win."

V. Dubuque

Stefanova and Labicki won at No. 1 doubles against the Spartans, 6-1. However the hosts took the doubles point with 6-2 wins at the other two doubles spots against Calvert/McKinley and Holst/Riggs.

Stefanova won 6-4, 6-3 at No. 1 singles and Labicki made it two singles wins on the day with a 6-3, 7-5 win. After winning the first set, Calvert dropped a tiebreaker at No. 3 singles for a 4-6, 6-4, 10-6 loss. Holst lost 7-6 (1), 6-2 at No. 4, McKinley fell 6-0. 6-1 at No. 5 and Riggs lost 6-2, 6-3 at No. 6.

MONMOUTH MOMENTS: Stefanova is is the seventh player in school history with 40 combined career wins, joining Labicki who reached the milestone last week ... Labicki now has 43 combined wins, tied for all-time with Sara Yerks (2004-06) ... Labicki has 20 singles wins, one behind Stefanova and tied for sixth most in Monmouth history ... With 23 doubles wins, Labicki is tied with Amy Unzicker (2008-10) and Morgan Holle (2014-18) for sixth in MC history ... The Scots lost at home to Loras 6-1 last season and they beat Dubuque 7-2 in Sept, 2023 ... Monmouth had won the last two against the Spartans ... The Scots will face St. Ambrose in the home opener on Wednesday while the men's teams also play ... The matches are scheduled to start at 3:30 p.m.
