Scots Volleyball Sweeps Beloit Saturday
Wright's 14 kills lead Monmouth
MONMOUTH, Ill. (10/16/2021) — The Monmouth College volleyball team picked up their second three-set Midwest Conference sweep of the week as they beat Beloit College 25-12, 25-11, 25-12 on Saturday. The Scots (10-11, 3-3) never trailed in the match and Beloit only forced two ties in the three sets.
Monmouth jumped out to a 10-5 lead in the first set and never looked back. Beloit used their second timeout at 16-6 and the Scots picked up the next two points to go up by 12. Setter Karlie Drish (Milan, Illinois) had 11 assists in the first set as five different player recorded kills. Kaylee Woodard (Monmouth, Illinois) had 11 digs and the Scots recorded two blocks.
The second set was more of the same as Monmouth led wire-to-wire for the 25-11win. The Scots held Beloit to -.129 hitting in the second set and recorded five aces. Loryn Beal (Pontiac, Illinois), Layne Wright (Davenport, Iowa) and Amanda Dybal (Apex, North Carolina) all had three kills in the set. Drish led Monmouth with nine assists in the second set while Woodard had five digs.
The third set was tied 2-2 before Monmouth went on a 9-1 run to take control. They kept it rolling through both Beloit timeouts and cruised to a 25-12 win to sweep the match. Wright had nine kills in the third set while Dybal and Megan Kimble (Farmington, Illinois) added three each. Drish had 13 more assists and Woodard had five digs in the last set, as did Paige Bergschneider (Alexander, Illinois).
Wright led the Scots with 14 kills on the day while Dybal and Kimble had eight each. Overall six players recorded kills as the Monmouth attack hit .257 in the match. Drish tallied 33 assists and Beal had three aces. Woodard led the Scots with 21 digs while Bergschneider had 16.
