Scots Women Threaten Record at Home Invitational

Monmouth, IL (09/08/2019) — Monmouth's women's golf team came within a stroke of their program course record Sunday in the final round of the Fighting Scot Invitational, carding a 336 for a 678 total and a third-place finish at their home course at Gibson Woods.

The Scots opened Saturday's play with a 342, but shaved six strokes off Sunday's round for the near-record. A six-stroke improvement by Haley Hoekstra fueled the Scots' Day 2 improvement. The senior finished seventh after rebounding from an opening round 85 to card a 79 - three under her program record - to finish with a 164, the team's third-lowest 36-hole score at their home course.

Mamie Ambrosch and Dani Freeman turned in consistent rounds as Monmouth's No. 2 and 3 scorers. Ambrosch checked in with an 82-83-165 to place 10th. Freeman was 11th with an 84-85-169.

Morgan Bemis cut two strokes off her opening score to post scoring rounds each day. The sophomore posted a 91-89-180. Kaniesha Whatley rounded out Monmouth's five-player team with non-scoring rounds of 95-97-192, finishing a stroke behind Jessi Haines' individual rounds of 97-94-191.

Monmouth travels to the Chicago suburbs Friday for the 18-hole Benedictine Invitational.
