Sepich Wins Singles Match, Scots Drop Pair in Iowa
MONMOUTH, Ill. (02/11/2024) — The Monmouth College men's tennis team began their spring season on Saturday with a pair of matches in Iowa. The Scots lost to Simpson College 6-1 and fell to host Luther College 9-0 in the second match of the day.
Sawyer Day (Kansas City, Missouri) and Spencer Corn (Cupertino, California) played at No. 1 doubles. They lost 8-1 to Simpson and 8-1 to Luther. Andrew Nickols (Janesville, Wisconsin) and Macaden Sepich (Mackinaw, Illinois) played at No. 2 doubles, falling 8-4 against Simpson and 8-0 against Luther. The Scots do not have a No. 3 doubles team.
Day played at No. 1 singles, falling 6-1, 6-0 against Simpson and 6-2, 6-1 against Luther, Sepich played at No. 2 singles against Luther with a 6-0, 6-0 loss and he won against Simpson at No. 4 singles, 6-0, 6-0. Corn lost 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 singles against Simpson and 6-0, 6-1 at No. 3 against Luther. Nickols fell 6-0, 6-0 in both matches. Nehemiah Declaw (Aurora, Colorado) lost 6-0, 6-1 at No. 5 singles against Luther and 6-3, 7-5 against Simpson. The Scots do not have a No. 6 singles player, neither did Simpson.
Monmouth will travel to Bloomington, Illinois next weekend for two more indoor matches. They will face host Illinois Wesleyan at 9 am and Principia College at 11:30 a.m.
