Shie Nets League Honor for Monmouth Men's Tennis

Monmouth, IL (03/17/2020) — A perfect singles opening has earned Monmouth's Joseph Shie (Davenport, Iowa/Central) this week's Midwest Conference Men's Tennis Performer of the Week award.

Shie continued his perfect singles season last week, dropping just four games in his final two matches. Last Tuesday, the junior posted a commanding 6-0, 6-1 win over Wabash at No. 1 singles and followed with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Northwestern-St. Paul on Friday. Teaming with Zach Harris at No. 1 doubles, Shie picked up two more wins, a n 8-2 victory on Tuesday followed by Friday's 8-6 win. He had opened the week outlasting his Colby-Sawyer singles' opponent 6-3, 7-6 and taking an 8-6 doubles win. For the season, Shie is a perfect 6-0 in singles play and 4-2 in doubles competition.

A biochemistry major, Shie is the son of Thomas and Dianna Shie.
