Simons Named MLAX Defensive Player of the Week

Goalie leads the Midwest Lacrosse Conference in multiple categories

MONMOUTH, Ill (04/19/2021) — Monmouth College men's lacrosse goalkeeper Teagan Simons (Littleton, Colorado) was named the Midwest Lacrosse Conference's Defensive Player of the Week on Monday. Simons saved seven-of-eight shots he faced through three quarters in the Scots 17-3 win at Cornell College on Wednesday. He gave way to backup Nehemiah Declaw (Aurora, Colorado) for the fourth quarter with the Scots leading 15-1.

Simons, a sophomore, leads the MLC in goals against average at 5.98 through five games. He also leads eligible goalkeepers in save percentage at 63.5 percent. With eight career wins and a career save percentage of 63.3, Simons holds the Scots record in both categories.

The Scots are 4-1 overall and 3-1 in conference play with two games remaining. The Scots are a game behind Northwestern-Minnesota in the standings and travel to face the Eagles on May 1. They are next in action against Northland in Ashland, Wisconsin on Saturday.
