MONMOUTH, Ill. (11/22/2022) — The Monmouth College volleyball and football teams combined to have six student-athletes named Division III Academic All-District by College Sports Communicators (formerly CoSIDA) on Tuesday. Each student-athlete honored will advance to the CSC Academic All-America ballot for Division III next month.

Representing the Monmouth volleyball team is sophomore Paige Bergschneider (Alexander, Illinois). She carries a 3.875 GPA as a business administration major and led the Scots on the court this season with 755 assists. Bergschnieder also had 25 aces, 24 blocks and 49 kills on the season and is now 46 assists shy of 1,000 for her career.

Five Monmouth football players made the All-District list for CSC. Jackson Bergren (Monmouth, Illinois), Addison Fletcher (Monmouth, Illinois), Cole Jackson (Carthage, Illinois), Cody Szelc (Riverview, Florida) and Jake Uryasz (Farmington, Illinois) earned the honors for the MWC Tri-Champions.

Bergren, a sophomore wide receiver, has a 3.96 GPA as a business major. He finished the season with 21 receptions for 211 yards and two touchdowns while also making six tackles on special teams.

Fletcher was named All-Midwest Conference First Team for the second year in a row, leading the conference in punting. The senior has a 3.66 GPA as a psychology major and he averaged 40.6 yards per punt this season with 12 punts going over 50 yards.

Jackson, a sophomore defensive back, carries a 3.51 GPA as a business administration major. He had 10 total tackles and one tackle for loss this season while seeing action on defense and special teams. Jackson also blocked a kick and had one punt return for 14 yards.

Szelc, a sophomore kicker, has a 3.79 GPA as a business major. He made a 21-yard field goal in the Lakefront Bowl on Saturday, his seventh field goal of the season. Szelc added 54 extra points on the season and averaged 53.2 yards per kickoff with seven touchbacks.

Uryasz, a fifth-year senior wide receiver, has a 3.70 GPA as an exercise science major. He had a career-high 50 catches for 800 yards and six touchdowns this season. Uryasz finished his career with 134 catches for 1,974 yards and 15 touchdowns, all ranking in the top 10 among wide receivers in Fighting Scots history.

To qualify for CSC Academic All-District, student-athletes must have a minimum 3.50 cumulative GPA and participate in at least 50% of their teams games. Student-athletes are nominated by their own institution's Sports Information Director and the awards are voted on by CSC members.

All six Monmouth student-athletes will be on the All-America ballot with first-, second- and third-team honorees announced in December. The last time a Monmouth student-athlete was named a CSC/CoSIDA Academic All-American football player Matt Barnes in 2016. The Scots have had nine All-American honorees since 1983. These six join four soccer players, two men and two women, who were named All-District last week.
