Softball Drops Pair in Florida on Thursday

MONMOUTH, Ill. (03/15/2024) — The Monmouth College softball team dropped two games on Thursday with a 5-1 loss to Lasell University in the opener and a 14-6 loss to Occidental College in game two. The Scots will be back in action for their final two games of the Florida trip on Friday.
Monmouth started the day against Lasell and the Lasers plated two runs in the second inning. Monmouth's Karliegh Ashby (Monmouth, Illinois) got the Scots going with a single to left field in the next inning. She stole second and third on consecutive pitches but was stranded 90 feet away.

Lasell put together a 3-run inning in the fourth to stretch their lead to 5-0. The Scots got on the board in the sixth. Kendall Lewis (Cambridge, Illinois) singled and scored on an RBI double by Ashby.

Game TWO

The Scots faced off against Occidental College for their second game of the day. The Scots scored first with a 6-run inning in the top of the third. The Scots big inning was kick-started by an RBI single from Lillian Hucke (Aledo, Illinois) and highlighted by a 3-run triple by Ashby.

Occidental responded in the bottom half of the inning with four runs to bring the game to 6-4 heading into the fourth. Monmouth's Elizabeth Waymire (Havana, Illinois) and Grace Wyman (Pekin, Illinois) both singled in the fourth but the Scots didn't add to the lead. Occidental plated four runs in the bottom of the inning and added six more in the fifth to win 14-6.

Monmouth finishes the Florida trip on Friday with games agaisnt St. Scholastica and Wisconsin-Platteville.
