Softball Ends Florida Trip with Two Friday Losses

Warmowski collects four hits on the day

MONMOUTH, Ill. (03/11/2022) — The Monmouth College softball team finished their Florida Spring Break trip with a pair of losses on Friday. The Scots (1-8) lost to Marywood University 7-2 in the morning and fell to Simmons University 6-1 in the afternoon.

Against Marywood, the Scots gave up four runs in the first inning, three unearned. A home run in the top of the third gave the Pacers a 5-0 lead and they added another run on an error.

Monmouth got on the board in the bottom of the third. Calista Warmowski (Spring Grove, Illinois) singled with one out and Madison Belville (Rushville, Illinois) walked. MyKenzie Kloess (Dupo, Illinois) doubled home both runners to cut the Marywood lead to 6-2.

Marywood scored the final run for a 7-2 win. Warmowski and Kloess both had two hits as pitcher Rebecca Merletti (Kenosha, Wisconsin) took the loss.

Monmouth scored first against Simmons, with a run in the second inning. Allie Ramlo (Tremont, Illinois) singled to center and moved to second on a single by Abby Leber (Tremont, Illinois). Warmowski loaded the bases with a single and Belville was hit by a pitch to score Ramlo.

Leber kept the Sharks off the board through four innings. Two singles and an error in the fifth tied the game and Jenna Pauley (Moline, Illinois) took over on the mound. Simmons took the lead with a single and added on with a two-run single. Another hit made it 5-1 and they added a sixth run in the sixth inning.

Warmowski had two hits in game two as well, finishing the day with four total. Leber (1-3) took the loss, allowing two earned runs over four innings while striking out four.
