Softball Game Suspended by Lightning
MONMOUTH, Ill. (04/22/2025) — The Monmouth College softball double header against Augustana was postponed on Tuesday as game one was suspended in the bottom of the first inning. The start of the game was delayed over 40 minutes by rain and lightning before five batters came to the plate.
The Vikings went in order in the top of the first against Monmouth starting pitcher Lizzie Durfee (Arlington, Washington). Karliegh Ashby (Monmouth, Illinois) led off with a walk but was retired on a line drive double play. With Savannah Powers (Volo, Illinois) at the plate, the game was halted by lightning at 4:01 p.m. The game was officially suspended at 4:33 p.m. The teams will attempt to resume game one and play game two on either Monday, May 5 or Tuesday, May 6.
The Scots return to MWC action on Saturday against Knox. The teams play a double header in Monmouth at 1 p.m.
