Stefanova Names All-Conference for Tennis Singles

by Nathan Baliva

MONMOUTH, Ill. (10/24/2024) — Monmouth College sophomore Ivana Stefanova (Streamwood, Illinois) was named women's tennis All-Conference on Wednesday for the Midwest Conference. Stefanova is a repeat selection for her singles play and was selected by a vote of the seven MWC coaches.

Stefanova played at No. 1 singles for the Fighting Scots this season, posting a 6-3 record in the regular season with two losses coming in a 3rd set tiebreak. She was 4-2 in singles matches against MWC opponents in the regular season.

At the Midwest Conference Singles Tournament last weekend, Stefanova won her first round match 6-0, 6-2 against Alyssa Wise of Illinois College. In the semifinals she fell to Erin Jarvis of Grinnell 6-0, 6-2.

After two seasons with the Fighting Scots, Stefanova ranks fifth in the MC career list with 19 singles wins. She ranks 10th with 17 doubles wins and 10th overall with 36 combined wins. She is also one of only four players in school history to have at least two 5-match win streaks in singles play. Stefanova won five straight this season from September 14-October 2 after winning her first 10 singles matches as a freshman in 2023.

The Midwest Conference coaches selected 10 players for singles All-Conference and 10 players for doubles All-Conference. Eight players were selected to both teams with Stefanova and Clarak Hills of Lawrence as the two who were singles only selections.
