Stefanova Wins Singles Match, Scots Fall at IWU

MONMOUTH, Ill. (10/08/2024) — The Monmouth College women's tennis team lost their final regular season match of the season 6-1 at Illinois Wesleyan on Tuesday. The Scots head to the MWC Singles and Doubles Championships next weekend in Madison, Wisconsin.

IWU took the doubles point as they swept the three doubles matches. Ivana Stefanova (Streamwood, Illinois) and Natalie Labicki (Antioch, Illinois) lost 6-3 at #1 doubles. Kimber Calvert (Paris, Illinois) and Jennifer Shimmin (Monmouth, Illinois) fell 6-0 at #2 and Natalie Holst (East Moline, Illinois) and Alayna McKinley (Rock Island, Illinois) fell 6-3 at #3 doubles.

In singles, Stefanova won at #1 after rallying to win a pair of tiebreaks. She dropped the first set 6-4 but won the second set 7-6 (4) and won the match with a 10-4 tiebreak win. Labicki won the second set 6-0 to force a 3rd set tiebreaker but fell 12-10. Calvert lost 6-0, 6-1 at #3 and Shimmin fell 6-3, 6-1, at #4. Holst lost 6-3, 6-4 at #5 and McKinley lost 6-2, 6-0 at #6.

Stefanova is now alone in fifth on the career singles wins list with 19 and alone in ninth on the combined singles/doubles career wins list with 36

The Scots finish the regular season 1-9 and prepare for the MWC singles and doubles tournaments next weekend.
