Stockton Scores but Scots Fall to IC on Penalty Kick

MONMOUTH, Ill. (10/17/2024) — The Monmouth College women's soccer team dropped a 2-1 decision to Illinois College on Wednesday. The Scots (3-7-3, 1-2-1) pulled even early in the first half, but a second-half penalty kick decided the game.

The Lady Blues took the lead in the seventh minute with a breakaway goal. Not even a minute later, Monmouth equalized. Danielle Beach (Geneseo, Illinois) found Jaden Stockton (Springfield, Illinois) with a through ball and the freshman beat the IC keeper for her third goal of the season.

The game was still tied through halftime and into the 60th minute. Monmouth gave up a penalty kick on a foul in the box and IC took a 2-1 lead. The Scots had a couple very good chances to tie the rest of the way but the IC keepers tallied six saves, two in the second half.

MONMOUTH MOMENTS: Avery Parks (Bloomington, Illinois) played all 90 minutes and has played every minute this season ... Anna Caster (Greenfield, Indiana), Mylee Hansen (Pekin, Illinois), Taylor Freeman (Washington, Illinois) and Beach also played all 90 minutes ...Caster made eight saves ... Beach moved into a tie for ninth on the career assists list with 14 ... She leads Monmouth with five assists this season ... The Scots play at 1:30 p.m. at Lake Forest on Saturday ... The next home game is at 1:30 p.m. on Oct. 26.
