Tate, McLarty, Stewart Win Races as Scots Take Second in Pool

MONMOUTH, Illinois (11/03/2024) — The Monmouth College men's and women's swim teams both finished second at the 3-team Monmouth Invite on Saturday at Pepper Natatorium. The men scored 61 points, 36 behind Grinnell and 33 ahead of Illinois College. The women scored 51 points, six ahead of IC and 38 behind Grinnell.

MEN
Tariq McLarty (South Holland, Illinois) won the 100 butterfly with a PR of 52.68. McLarty also won this race last week against Augustana. Eli Wills (Blue Springs, Missouri) took fourth in 58.42

McLarty won the 100 freestyle as well with a time of 50.32. Freshman Bucket Youvan (Rochester, Indiana) took third in 51.89 and Wills was fifth in 53.11.

Kody Coyne (Bluffton, Indiana) turned in a season-best 100 breaststroke time of 1:04.94 to finish second.. He also earned two points in the 200 IM at 2:15.15 with Jordan Bridgford (Kapolei, Hawai'i) earning one point in 2:17.30.

Youvan took second in the 50 free in 23.02 while Kennon took sixth in 23.75. Youvan took fourth in the 100 backstroke in 1:00.76 with Luke Foster (Galesburg, Illinois) in sixth at 1:01.77

Foster, Coyne, McLarty and Tristan Kennon (Flossmoor, Illinois) finished second in the 200 yard medley relay with a time of 1:42.36. Kennon, Foster, Willis and McLarty took second in the 400 freestyle relay in 3:26.53.

Kennon took fourth in the 200 yard freestyle in 1:56.30. Jaeden Peters (Greenfield, Indiana) took fourth in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:57.49

WOMEN

Cally Tate (Monmouth, Illinois) won the 50 free in 25.90 with LaBadie in fifth at 27.73. Tate also won the 100 backstroke in 1:02.09 with Aiden Bach (Stetsonville, Wisconsin) in second at 1:08.98.

Caitlyn Stewart (Monmouth, Illinois) won the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:35.05. She also placed third in the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:07.06

Lea Schmitt (Rockford, Illinois) took second in the 100 breaststroke with a personal record time of 1:13.02. Addie Smith (Monmouth, Illinois) was fifth in 1:17.24. Smith also took fifth in the 200 freestyle in 2:15.99

The women's 200 yard medley relay team of Tate, Schmitt, Stewart (Monmouth, Illinois) and LaBadie finished second with a time of 1:58.16. The 400 freestyle relay team of Nicole Fitch (Marengo, Illinois), LaBadie, Stewart and Tate took second in 3:58.12.

Allie Warren (Galesburg, Illinois) took second in the 200 yard IM in 2:24.91 with Fitch in sixth at 2:29.47. Warren also took second in the 100 freestyle in 1:00.02 with LaBedie in fourth at 1:01.67.

The Scots are back in action next Saturday at Illinois College.
