Tennis Drops Pair of MWC Matches
MONMOUTH, Ill. (10/11/2026) — The Monmouth College women's tennis team returned to Midwest Conference action on Saturday with Homecoming losses to Cornell and Grinnell. The Scots (1-8, 1-4) fell 7-0 to Grinnell in the morning match and 5-2 to Cornell in the afternoon match.
Senior Ivana Stefanova (Streamwood, Illinois) saw her season-long seven-match win streak end with a 7-5, 7-5 loss at No. 1 singles against Grinnell. Jenny Nelson (Wentzville, Missouri) fell 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 while Kimber Calvert (Paris, Illinois) lost 6-0, 6-1 at No. 3. Tiah Riggs (Vincennes, Indiana) lost 6-1, 6-0 at No. 4 and Delaney Albarran (Chicago, Illinois) fell 6-0, 6-3 at No. 5. Korryn Keehner (Staunton, Illinois) lost 6-0, 6-1 at No. 6.
In doubles, Stefanova/Nelson lost 6-4 at No. 1 while the other two doubles teams fell 6-0.
Against Cornell, Stefanova won 7-6 (5), 6-3 after the Rams shuffled their lineup. Riggs also won at No. 4 singles, 6-2, 6-3. Nelson lost 6-0, 6-1, Calvert fell 6-2, 6-2, Albarran lost 6-3, 6-0 and Keehner fell 6-0, 6-2. The Rams won the first two doubles matches 6-1 and took the No. 3 match at 6-0.
MONMOUTH MOMENTS: Stefanova has 38 career singles wins and is 8-1 in singles this season ... With her 70th combined win, Stefanova moved past Kimi Wegner into third on the career list ... Her singles win streak of seven was the second-longest in school history, trailing only Stefanova's record of 10 straight wins in 2023 ... She went 3-1 in singles and doubles against Cornell in dual matches for her career and 2-2 against Grinnell ... Riggs has three singles wins on the season ... Saturday was senior day for Stefanova and Calvert ... Monmouth hosts Lake Forest and Lawrence next Saturday in matches rescheduled from Oct. 3.
