Three Singles Wins but Scots Fall to IC on Wednesday

MONMOUTH, Ill. (10/03/2024) — The Monmouth College women's tennis team lost a home conference match against Illinois College on Wednesday. The 4-3 loss drops the Scots to 1-4 in MWC play with one match remaining on Saturday.

Ivana Stefanova (Streamwood, Illinois) won 6-3, 6-0 at #1 singles and Natalie Labicki (Antioch, Illinois)won 6-2, 6-0 at #2 singles. Natalie Holst (East Moline, Illinois) picked up a win at #5 singles, 6-3, 6-3. Kimber Calvert (Paris, Illinois) lost 6-2, 6-3 at #3 with. Jennifer Shimmin (Monmouth, Illinois) falling 6-1, 6-2 at #4. Alayna McKinley (Rock Island, Illinois) lost 6-2, 6-1 at #6 singles.

With her singles win, Stefanova has 18 career singles wins, tied for 8th on Monmouth's all-time list. She is tied with Katherine Hinman (2014-18) and Sara Yerks (2004-06). The top four all have at least 30 singles wins. She also passed Hinman for ninth on the combined singles/doubles career wins list with 35.

IC swept the doubles matches with wins of 6-4 at both #1 and #3 and a 6-2 win at #2.

The Scots play at home against both Lake Forest on Saturday with a 9 a.m. Senior Day start kicking off the Homecoming events.
