by Nathan Baliva

MONMOUTH, Ill. (03/31/2025) — Monmouth College baseball senior Toby Turnquist (Monmouth, Illinois) was named the Midwest Conference Pitcher of the Week on Tuesday. Turnquist shut down defending regular season champion Lawrence on Saturday with seven shutout innings as he allowed just four hits and struck out three in a 9-1 Monmouth win. The Scots clinched the home-opener series on Sunday with their second straight victory.

Turnquist improved to 2-3 on the season with the victory and posted his second-longest outing of his career, and longest shutout appearance. The lefty allowed just two hits after the first inning and set the Vikings down in order in the second, fourth and sixth innings. He retired seven of the final eight batters faced before turning the game over to the bullpen.

In six starts this season, Turnquist is tied for the team lead in innings pitched (29.1) and ranks second in strikeouts (19). He also ranks second on the team in ERA and average against.

The Scots return to MWC action this weekend at Grinnell after a midweek contest against Blackburn.
