Two All-Conference, Gallis Player of the Year for Tournament-Bound Scots
Monmouth, IL (03/03/2020) — A record-setting year has earned Monmouth College's Becca Gallis (Kernville, Calif./Kern Valley) and Carley Turnbull (Mesa, Ariz./Mesa) first team All-Midwest Conference women's basketball honors. Gallis also became the Fighting Scots' first Player of the Year honoree in a vote of the league's coaches.
Gallis picked up her second straight first-team honor. The senior guard started in all 27 games and scored her 1,000th career point this season. She averaged 16.3 points per game while canning 56 three-pointers, both team highs. Gallis scored double figures in 22 of her 27 games, including 10 games of 20 or more points. The 86 percent free throw shooter set the Scots' record for consecutive free throws in a game (13), season and career (32). An exercise science major, she is the daughter of William and Sheila Gallis.
Turnbull scored first-team honors for the first time after back-to-back years being named to the second team. The senior guard averaged 15.9 points and 6.5 rebounds per game and 55 total assists, all second on the team. Her 27 blocks were a team-high. Turnbull eclipsed the 1,000-career point plateau this season while scoring double figures in 23 games - a team high - and scoring 20 or more points eight times. The exercise science major is the daughter of Mark and Carrie Turnbull.
The Fighting Scots are making their second trip to the NCAA Tournament after earning the automatic berth with a Midwest Conference Tournament championship. The team enters the postseason with a program-record 21 wins.
