Two Champions and Two Records for Scots on Day 2 of MWC Championships
Monmouth, IL (02/16/2020) — Kyle Jones won his first Midwest Conference title and Preston Bocchi his sixth as Monmouth College recorded a record day at Saturday's Midwest Conference Swimming and Diving Championships in Grinnell, Iowa.
Jones swam a Monmouth honor roll time in the prelims and then a personal-best to take the 100-yard breaststroke title. His 57.89 was two-tenths ahead of the runner up to land Jones his first league crown and give the Scots three titles for the weekend after Bocchi won for the second day in a row.
Bocchi - who won the 100 backstroke two seasons ago as a freshman - reclaimed the crown Saturday. The junior swam an honor roll time in the prelims and again in the finals to give him his sixth league title, touching first in the 100 back at 51.13, nearly a second ahead of the runner up.
Newcomer Joseph Addison was part of two Scots' records, setting an individual record in the 400 individual medley for the second time in his inaugural season. His 4:15.54 in the finals placed him sixth.
Addison, Bocchi, Rik Doornenbal and Tyler Davis ended Saturday's meet with a school record in the 800 freestyle relay. The foursome touched in 7:01.33 to take third place, less than three seconds off the winning pace. Doornenbal added an individual fifth-place swim.
