Volleyball Swept by Augustana
Woodard Collects 18 Digs in Loss
MONMOUTH, Ill. (09/16/2021) — The Monmouth College volleyball team lost at home for the first time this season with a 25-21, 25-17, 25-23 loss to Augustana on Wednesday night. The Scots (5-5) had leads in each set but saw the Vikings pull away each time in the sweep.
The hitting got better as they night progressed for the Scots as they hit .125 in the first set, .227 in the second and .239 in the third. Senior Madi Fellhauer (Jacksonville, Illinois) led the Scots with seven kills while junior Amanda Dybal (Apex, North Carolina) had five. Overall nine players recorded at least one kill for the Scots including freshman Delaney Scheidenhelm (New Berlin, Illinois), who made her varsity debut. Defensive specialist Lauryn Jeffries (Lakeland, Florida) also made her varsity debut with four digs and one assist.
Senior Kaylee Woodard (Monmouth, Illinois) led the Scots with 18 digs and she ranks fifth in the nation for all Division III players at just under six digs per set on the season. Freshman Paige Bergschneider (Alexander, Illinois) led the Scots with 11 assists while senior Karlie Drish (Milan, Illinois) had nine. Junior Sarah LaHood (East Peoria, Illinois) had two of the Scots six blocks on the night.
The Scots are 25-31 all-time against Augustana with five straight losses. Monmouth won the JV match in three sets, including a 30-28 final in the third set. The Scots travel to Decatur, Illinois this weekend for the Millikin Invitational that will include two matches on Friday and two more on Saturday.
