Volleyball Wins Twice on Saturday

Monmouth goes 3-0 at Central Tournament

MONMOUTH, Ill. (10/30/2021) — After sweeping Nebraska Wesleyan on Friday, the Monmouth College volleyball team went 2-0 on Saturday with two more sweeps at the Central College Tournament in Pella, Iowa. The Scots beat Iowa Wesleyan 25-21, 25-10, 25-14 in the first match before beating host Central 29-27, 25-23, 25-23 in the afternoon contest. The wins move the Scots to 15-13 on the season, securing a finish over .500 as they head to the Midwest Conference Championships on Friday.

In the first win, junior Amanda Dybal (Apex, North Carolina) led the Scots with 11 kills. Freshman Layne Wright (Davenport, Iowa) and senior Loryn Beal (Pontiac, Illinois) had nine and seven kills respectively. Senior Karlie Drish (Milan, Illinois) continued her excellent season with 31 assists, moving her to a team-leading 582 throughout the year. Senior libero Kaylee Woodard (Monmouth, Illinois) finished the game with 24 digs, and Beal added 13 digs with three aces to her stat sheet.

In their second game of the day and the third game of the tournament, the Scots defeated the Central College Dutch in three sets for their third straight sweep. The Scots' volleyball team won the match 29-27, 25-23, 25-23 to move them to an overall record of 15-13. Today's wins means that they will finish over .500 for first time since they went 19-11 in 2012.

Senior Megan Kimble (Farmington, Illinois) led the way in kills with 12. Dybal and Beal tallied nine and five kills in this game respectively. Junior Sarah LaHood (East Peoria, Illinois) and freshman Paige Bergschneider (Alexander, Illinois) both had two aces of the teams eight total. Drish had 29 assists, putting her at a team-high 611 assists. Woodard had 19 digs, putting her at a Midwest Conference-leading 582 digs.

The Scots did not drop a set during the Central College Tournament and will head into the Midwest Conference Championships with an overall record of 15-13 and a conference record of 5-3. The next Scots' game will be in Mount Vernon, Iowa on Friday, November 5th at 7 p.m. as they take on top-seeded Cornell College in the Midwest Conference Championships.
