Walker's Hat-Trick Leads Scots Past Rockford on Friday
Scots post first shutout of season
MONMOUTH, Ill. (09/09/2023) — The Monmouth College women's soccer team got a first-half hat-trick from senior Madison Walker (Vernon Hills, Illinois) and won at Rockford University 4-0 on Friday night. The Scots (2-1-1) will play in Wisconsin on Saturday afternoon to complete their road trip.
Walker scored just 2:31 into the game with an unassisted goal. In the 17th minute, Walker doubled the lead with another goal this time assisted by Grasyn Schmidt (Lodi, Wisconsin) and Natalie Flores (El Paso, Texas).
Lynn Rech (Vacaville, California) put the Scots on top 3-0 with their first goal of the season in the 33rd minute. Natalya Main (Peoria, Illinois) and Lauren DellaValle (Peoria, Illinois) picked up assists. Walker completed her first-half hat trick in the 43rd minute off an assist from Elizabeth Schmidt (Waverly, Iowa).
Neither team scored in the second half. Monmouth goalkeeper Anna Caster (Greenfield, Indiana) made one save in the first half and gave way to Lea Selquist (Peru, Illinois). Selquist didn't face any shots on goal in her 45 minutes of action.
MONMOUTH MOMENTS: With 22 career goals, Walker moves into a tie for eighth on the Scots career list with Darice Brooks (2014-16)... She has two hat tricks this season and four in her career. Walker led the Scots with four shots on goal while Danielle Beach (Geneseo, Illinois) had three and Rech had two. The Scots outshot Rockford 18-3 and shots on goal were 11-1. Avery Parks (Bloomington, Illinois) and Schmidt played all 90 minutes. The Scots play in Madison, Wisconsin against Edgewood on Saturday at 4 p.m. after the men's game. The Scots next home game is Wednesday, Sept. 13 against Dubuque at 4:30 p.m.
