Monmouth hosts Central Wednesday

by Nathan Baliva

MONMOUTH, Ill. (09/12/2022) — The Monmouth College women's soccer team finished a two-game road week with a 4-1 loss at Augustana Sunday afternoon. All five goals were scored in the first half and the Scots return home for their only home game in an 18-day span.

The Vikings grabbed the early lead with a goal just 2:19 into the contest. They double the lead in the 24th minute and added a third goal in the 30th minute. Augustana's fourth goal came less than a minute after the third as they took control of the match.

A foul in the box, called against the Vikings, gave the Scots a penalty kick with 2:20 to play in the half. Junior Madison Walker (Vernon Hills, Illinois) stepped up and converted the penalty kick for her first goal of the season.

Neither team scored in the second half. Augustana finished with seven shots on goal to three for the Scots. Walker had two of Monmouth's shots on goal while Kaylee Doebert (Mount Horeb, Wisconsin) had the other. Anna Caster (Greenfield, Indiana) played all 90 minutes in goal and made four saves. Eight Scots players played all 90 minutes in the Sunday afternoon contest.

The Scots will host Central College at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday at Peacock Park. This weekend they head to Wisconsin for games against Maranatha Baptist and Mount Mary.
