Wall, Harlan, Warner Lead Scots to Fourth Straight Win

Monmouth knocks off Dominican on Saturday

MONMOUTH, Ill. (11/27/2022) — The Monmouth College women's basketball team came back from Thanksgiving break early to beat the Dominican University Stars 68-50 at Glennie Gym on Saturday. With three players in double figures, the Scots improved to 4-2 on the season and they have won four straight games.

Monmouth got the lead with two free throws from Tarae Warner (Burlington, Iowa). Zoie Wall (Bartonville, Illinois) scored the next four points as the Scots took a 6-3 lead. The Stars scored seven in a row before Warner scored and Ashley Jones (Abingdon, Illinois) scored on a putback to tie the game.

The Stars took a 12-10 lead before Monmouth closed the quarter on a 7-0 run. Five of those points came from the free throw line with makes from Mitchell, Wall and Lily Harlan (Washington, Illinois).

Monmouth added to their lead to start the second quarter before the Stars got on the board at 19-14. Harlan scored on back-to-back possessions, including a 3-pointer for a 26-18 lead. Audrey Law (Bloomington, Indiana) gave the Scots a 10-point lead with a layup and Jones pushed the lead to 12 with a bucket. Law hit a corner jumper for a 37-23 lead with 1:17 to go in the half and neither team scored again before halftime.

The Scots started the second half with buckets from Jadyn Mitchell (Flanagan, Illinois) and Warner for a 41-23 lead. The Stars went on a 4-0 run before Warner made a layup and Wall scored inside for a 45-30 lead. Wall snagged her 10th rebound during that run to secure another double-double. The Stars cut the lead down but Monmouth got buckets from Mitchell and Harlan to go up 51-35 with less than two minutes to play in the quarter. Harlan scored on an inbounds play in the final 10 seconds of the quarter for a 53-37 lead.

Wall hit a 3-pointer to start the fourth quarter and a bucket from Allie Hoy (Woodland, Illinois) put Monmouth up by 21. Warner scored in the paint for a 60-37 lead and Wall scored for a 25-point lead before the Stars hit a 3-pointer. Freshman Kiersten Cox (Illinois City, Illinois) hit a 3-pointer to put Monmouth on top 68-44. Dominican scored the final six points of the game for the 68-50 final score.

Wall led the Scots with a 17-point, 13-rebound double-double. Harlan had 15 points and seven rebounds while Warner finished with 13 points. Law and Mitchell led the Scots with three assists each and Mitchell added eight points.

MONMOUTH MOMENTS: These teams hadn't met since the 2010-11 season and Monmouth leads the all-time series 2-1. The Scots made 14-of-17 from the free throw line in the first half and finished 17-for-21. Warner has at least 11 points in every game this seasonWarner leads the team with 12 steals. Wall has three double-doubles on the season, including two in a row. The Scots start conference play at home on Tuesday with a 5:30 p.m. game against Lake Forest.
