Weather forces Monmouth College's 162nd commencement ceremony inside

by Duane Bonifer

Monmouth, IL (05/09/2019) — Monmouth College's 162nd commencement ceremony at noon Sunday, May 12, will be held in the College's Huff Athletic Center.

College officials decided to move outdoor commencement activities inside because recent rains have saturated campus grounds and because this weekend's weather forecast calls for a chance of additional rain.

"As much as we would like to have the College's traditional outdoor ceremony in front of Wallace Hall, our graduates and their families will be much more comfortable indoors and will still have a wonderful day to celebrate their successes," said Monmouth Associate Dean of Students and Director of Campus Events Karen Ogorzalek.

Inspirational speaker Ron Gold will address members of the Class of 2019 at the commencement ceremony, which will be streamed on Facebook Live at facebook.com/monmouthcollege.

The commencement weekend schedule:

May 11
12:30 p.m. -- Graduate Reception: Mellinger Commons, Center for Science and Business.

2 p.m. -- Baccalaureate Service: Dahl Chapel and Auditorium, featuring a message by the Rev. Dr. J. Herbert Nelson, Stated Clerk of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church (USA).

3:30 p.m. -- Honor Walk: Huff Athletic Center.

5:30 p.m. -- Senior Gala: Glennie Gymnasium.
