Women's Basketball Team Falls to Lawrence on Saturday

MONMOUTH, Ill. (12/13/2025) — The Monmouth College women's basketball team lost at home 67-35 on Saturday to Lawrence University. The Fighting Scots (2-6, 0-3) are back in action on Sunday against Dominican in a non-conference game.

Lawrence scored the first eight points of the game and led 8-0 at the first media timeout. Allie Hoy (Woodland, Illinois) got the Scots on the board with 4:02 to play in the quarter. The Vikings finished the quarter with a 7-0 run to lead 14-2.

Lawrence scored the first field goal of the second quarter before Brooklyn Sellers (Freeport, Illinois) scored in the paint. THe Vikings went on a 14-1 run as Kynlee Stearns (Gilson, Illinois) made a free throw. Hoy ended the run with a wing 3-pointer off glass and then hit another 3-pointer to double the Monmouth scoring total. The Vikings finished the half on a 7-0 run to lead 37-11.

Lawrence scored the first basket of the second half before a 4-0 Monmouth run on buckets by Sellers and Averi Rangel (Moline, Illinois). The Vikings hit a 3-pointer before Kiersten Cox (Illinois City, Illinois) and Ella Goodrich (Minonk, Illinois) scored for another 4-0 run. Cox banked in a 3-pointer to beat the shot clock but Lawrence ended the quarter on a 6-0 run to lead 52-22.

The Vikings scored first tin the fourth quarter before Tiah Riggs (Vincennes, Indiana) got in the scoring column and Goodrich scored on a putback. Stearns scored Monmouth's next five points, including two coast-to-coast layups off steals. The Vikings went on a 10-0 run to lead 66-33 before Ava Borchardt (Harvard, Illinois) scored in the paint. Lawrence finished off the scoring at the free throw line to win 67-35.

Hoy led the Scots with eight points, all in the first half, while Goodrich and Stearns both had six. Goodrich had eight rebounds and two assists while Stearns had four steals.

MONMOUTH MOMENTS: Stearns scored her 500th career point ... She also tied her season high with four steals and now has 82 for her career ... Rangel moved into 13th on the 3-pointers attempted career list while Stearns moved into 20th ... The Scots lead the all-time series 29-23 and are 26-9 in the last 35 ... However Lawrence has won five in a row. ... The teams play again in Wisconsin on Jan. 17Monmouth's next Midwest Conference game is Jan. 3 at Cornell ... The Scots are home on Sunday against Dominican at 3 p.m.
