Women's Hoops Falls at Ripon on Saturday

MONMOUTH, Ill. (02/15/2025) — The Monmouth College women's basketball team fell 87-35 at Ripon on Saturday The Fighting Scots (5-18, 2-12) return home to finish the regular season against Cornell and Grinnell next week.

Delaney Scheidenhelm (New Berlin, Illinois) scored Monmouth's first basket to tie the game and Ashley Jones (Abingdon, Illinois) tied the game at 4-4 with a layup. Ripon closed the quarter on an 11-0 run to lead 15-4 after one.

Ripon scored the first five points of the second quarter to push the run to 16 straight before Scheidenhelm scored. Down 27-6, Kynlee Stearns (Gilson, Illinois) hit a 3-pointer and Ella Goodrich (Minonk, Illinois) got on the board to cut Ripon's lead to 36-11. Ripon closed the half on an 11-0 run to lead 47-11.

After Ripon scored to start the third quarter, Jones got a bucket for the Scots. Goodrich added a free throw and Jones scored four straight points to cut the Ripon lead to 55-18. The Red Hawks scored the next eight before Allie Hoy (Woodland, Illinois) hit two free throws. Brooklyn Sellers (Freeport, Illinois) scored and Stearns made two free throws with Ripon up by 50. Ripon ended the third quarter with a bucket to lead 76-25.

Ripon hit a 3-pointer to start the fourth quarter before Jones scored and Stearns hit two free throws. Mackenzie Yarc (Poplar Grove, Illinois) scored and Goodrich made two free throws for an 81-33 game. Goodrich scored with 3:20 to play and Ripon finished the game on a 4-0 run to win 87-35.

Jones led the Scots with 10 points while Stearns had eight and Goodrich added seven. Goodrich grabbed a team-best four rebounds while Stearns had two assists.

MONMOUTH MOMENTS: Jones has scored in double figures 19 times this season, including 10 straight games ... Jones moved past Tina Forth and Tanesha Hughes for 23rd on the career scoring list ... Monmouth had 29 turnovers ... The Scots were 12-for-14 at the free throw line ... Ripon leads the all-time series 39-21 with nine straight wins ... Ripon won in Monmouth 71-38 on Jan. 18 ... Monmouth's last win was the 2020 MWC Championship Game ... The Scots return home Wednesday with a 5:30 p.m. game against Cornell.
